•Rinh Neftereh
A Certain Keeper of the Moon
Excalibur - Primal
Rinh, a Miqo'te hailing from Gridania, had always dreamt about becoming a Wood Wailer, just like her Mom and Aunt had been before her, and to defend the forest that had been her beloved playground since her youth, from both monsters and poachers.
Having been accepted to train as a Wailer when she had gotten of age, one would think everything would've worked out. But on her second day of training, one of the many dangerous monsters roaming the forests had snuck upon the training squad she was part of and had decimated everyone but her, though it left her with permanent eye damage and a deep-seated guilt over being the sole survivor.
Declared unfit to continue training, and subsequently, to follow her family's tradition, she wouldn't give up and stopped using Bow and Arrow, instead opting for a Lance, then a later a Conjury Staff. Her still lingering injuries and self-doubts proved to be her achilles heel when it came to reaching her goals, though.
Despite many attempts, and the knowledge of her superiors that she had one of the highest resolves they had seen, they ultimately decided to stop giving her chances - and told her to pursue something else, something that wasn't wreaking havoc on both her body and mind.Rinh was at a loss. The one goal she had worked to reach for many years had just become unattainable. Even her big family couldn't help her out of her slump, with her spending many nights at the Inn drinking her sorrows away - if she wasn't picking a fight with another patron, that is.
It wasn't until a merchant noticed her affinity - and ability - to fight and offered to take her to Ul'Dah, where the Pugilist Guild was located, and with her home, and everything Gridania reminding her of her failure and broken dream, she eagerly accepted and rode with his carriage to the jewel of the desert.
Even with her big disadvantage, her deteriorating eyesight on her left eye, and comparably smaller size than other Miqo'te students, she proved to be a great student and the perseverance to prove everyone, even herself, wrong, was the driving force behind her abilities growing at a rapid pace.
Soon enough, her reputation started to grow, and she went from doing odd jobs, like guard work or muscle for less savoury clients, and even things like mining, to becoming a respected adventurer. One, who would do expeditions and explore the unknown; one who would find the secret to long-lost places like the Temple of the Fist and the likes.By that point, the Pugilist had become not only quite capable at Hand-to-Hand combat, but had also picked up Conjury and Thaumaturgy, both jobs she saw plenty of times used by fellow adventurers, who more than happily taught her everything they knew - in addition to Rinh of course trawling through book after book to learn everything there is to Magicks... at least ones that weren't forbidden to read.
However, her near obsessiveness to push herself had the effect of worsening what little sight she had on her injured eye, and one day, after another loss of consciousness from exhaustion, she woke up, the view on her left eye being nothing more than a black void...
What a shock that was at first, but by then, she had managed to learn how to deal with setbacks, even those as great as that, and honed what senses she has had left to perfection - and more - as the speed of her reactions and movement were even greater than before, as if she developed some kind of sixth sense for her opponents moves.
